Novel anti-inflammatory compounds

Ulcerative colitis or rheumatoid arthritis are diseases causing chronic inflammation (either in colon or in joints), which (in the long term) stays behind tissue destruction resulting in pathological changes, pain and loss of tissue function. Novel pyrimidine derivatives were proved for significant positive healing effects after p.o. application using animal models of rheumatoid arthritis and ulcerative colitis (acute or chronic).


Neurosteroids, potent CNS therapeutics – SMART Steroids

A number of studies demonstrated a neuroprotective ability of NMDA receptor (NMDAR) antagonists. Our results demonstrated that naturally occurring 3α5β-pregnanolone sulfate has a more pronounced inhibitory action on the tonically active NMDAR and common side effects of NMDA antagonist were disprooved in animal models.


Helquats, c-myc downregulation small molecules

We developed a novel class of selective G-quadruplex stabilizing ligands – helquats, which show promising bioactivity at low micromolar concentration in cell based assays. The helquat derivatives exhibit antiproliferative activity in selected cancer cell lines over-expressing c-myc and show an encouraging toxicity profile comparable to those of quarfloxin.

Selective Carbonic anhydrase IX inhibitors

Selective Carbonic anhydrase IX (CAIX) inhibitors: a new opportunity for therapy and/or diagnostics of cancer diseases. Selective inhibitors of CAIX were identified among promising candidates for solid tumor treatment. Inhibiton of CAIX (expressed only in tumor tissue) cause hypoxia and begin apoptosis of tumor cells, while normal tissue not expressing CAIX remains unaffected.
