Partnering/licensing opportunities

The institute is the owner or co-owner of a wide range of patents, many of which have already found commercial applications.

From the current portfolio of patents which are offered for licensing, we have selected several clusters of patents which fall into two categories - biologically active compounds and organic synthesis patents :

A - biologically active compounds

NMDA agonist – novel steroid compounds:

A cluster of patents dealing with neuroprotective steroid compounds. These compounds are based on the structure of 3αC-substituted derivatives of pregnanolone. These unique derivatives are not converted by enzymes; they cross the Blood Brain Barrier and do not show the side effects of NMDA antagonism. Furthermore, selected compounds have shown a potentially therapeutic effect in animal models of CNS disorders.

Antimicrobial peptides:

A cluster of patents dealing with synthetic oligopeptides of unique antimicrobial activities. These peptides have been tested on a wide spectrum of resistant bacterial strains isolated from patients and manifested superior properties. The preliminary animal tests have shown no side effect on normal tissue, and because of their nature their breakdown by peptidases is dramatically decreased.

Immunostimulators based on natural substances:

The patent deals with a biologically active natural substance of plant origin, which has a selective and pronounced stimulating activity on the production of interferon-γ and successive immunobiological properties. The patent covers the method for both the production and the determination of biological activities, along with presenting potential application fields.

B - organic synthesis patents
